Transformers! G.I. Joe! Action Man! M.A.S.K! Micronauts! Rom the Space Knight! Ouija? Following on the coattails of the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, Paramount and Hasbro are joining forces to create their own universe with the characters that populated oh so many 1980s cartoons. To show how serious the studios are in creating this crossover movie series, they’ve employed some heavy hitters when it comes to writers in both film and comic books. Brian K Vaughn, of Y the Last Man and Saga fame to name only a few, Michael Chabon, of Kavalier and Clay, and Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote Guardians of the Galaxy, are bringing these titans together. So while all of these properties are going to make for quite the universe, is there one that was left out of the bag? Ouija was a Hasbro property and does have a sequel coming out this October in Ouija: Origins of Evil. Does this cursed board game have its place in the Hasbro-verse?

So why on Earth could this be a possibility outside of Hasbro owning all these properties, well the biggest one is magic. The next Transformers sequel, the Last Knight, involves Optimus Prime and his merry men coming into contact with King Arthur and Merlin of all people. How on earth this is actually going to work with alien sentient robots meeting mythological titans of the past is beyond me, but here we are! Taking a page from Dr. Strange, the Hasbro Cinematic Universe is clearly going to be travelling into the realm of magic and mysticism with this opening salvo. The idea that characters from Ouija showing up is probably not going to happen considering they’re mostly cannon fodder in the two movies but the board itself making an appearance or being an integral part of the overall storyline could be a possibility.

The new Hasbro cinematic universe has many different components but it is lacking in the horror department when all is said and done. Ouija Origins of Evil looks, shockingly, like it will be fairly decent with a good amount of scares up its sleeves so having it be a component, however small, in this new universe could work well. You’d be hard pressed to think of a board game that has more of a supernatural allure or haunted feeling than this one which makes it perfect for introducing such a factor. You could potentially throw in the Ouija board as something of a Necronomicon Ex Mortis to the universe in a similar sense as to the Evil Dead universe that Ash has to deal with so frequently. While no mention of Ouija has been made with regards to the overall universe, the pieces are place for this to potentially be brought as another component to this new world.
