The 7 Comics You Should Read This Week August 30th Edition

It’s new comic day’s eve here at ComicBook.com, and with the myriad of excellent titles out on shelves right now, it can be easy to get a bit overwhelmed at the choices.

While your pull list might already be full, there are plenty of books that are worthy of your attention this Wednesday, including the seven books highlighted on this list. Whether the book is a great jumping-on point, a big finale, or just something different than the predominant superhero fare, there’s something here for everyone.

Of course, there are more than seven books worth your time this week, so here are a few runners-up that you should definitely check out if your wallet permits.

Generations: Hawkeye & Hawkeye #1 is written by Kelly Thompson with art by Stefano Raffaele and a cover by Greg Smallwood. The official description is listed below.

Kate Bishop, A.K.A. Hawkeye, finds herself smack-dab in the middle of a battle royal between the world’s most skilled sharpshooters – including an inexplicably young Clint Barton, A.K.A. the OTHER Hawkeye. The prize? Go Go Power Rangers #2 is written by Ryan Parrot with art by Dan Mora, and you can find the official description below.

The team explores the added everyday benefits-and drawbacks-of being a teenager with Morphin powers, while Rita concocts a plan to uncover the Rangers true identities!

Secret Empire #10 is written by Nick Spencer with art by David Marquez and Steve McNiven with a cover by Mark Brooks. The description reads: “Can there be any redemption for Captain America as the SECRET EMPIRE starts to crumble?’

All right, with that out of the way, here are the seven books you should give a chance this week!

Matt Mueller: ‘Buffy Season 11’ #10

Buffy and Willow are back to full strength, and they’ll need all of their power to get to the bottom of who’s been manipulating the removal of magic behind the scenes.

Odds are, they aren’t going to love the answer.

Buffy Season 11 #10 is written by Christos Gage with art by Megan Levens and Dan Jackson. The issue’s cover is done by Steve Morris, and you can find the official description below.

Despite not knowing who their Big Bad is, Buffy and the Scoobies know where the fruits of his or her evil labors are–and they’re going in to destroy those fruits . . . er, maybe. Hopefully, along the way, they’ll figure out who–or what–is behind the plot to remove magic from the world in time to save magical beings everywhere!

Jamie Lovett: ‘X-Men: Blue’ #10

Hank McCoy has a habit of getting in over his head, and his younger self is apparently no different.

As if time travel wasn’t enough (old McCoy to blame for that one), young McCoy is now messing with the world of magic. The bad news is that he’s just talented enough to be dangerous, and now the X-Men will have to clean up the mess.

X-Men: Blue #10 is written by Cullen Bunn with art by Arthur Adams. You can find the official description below.

NOW, WATCH AS I PULL A BEAST OUT OF MY HAT! When BEAST’s meddling with magic catches up to him, what nightmares will the X-MEN be forced to deal with? There is a cost to hexes and spells, and HANK McCOY is about to pay it. Will CYCLOPS, ICEMAN, ANGEL and MARVEL GIRL be able to save their teammate from himself?

Russ Burlingame: ‘Savage Dragon’ #226

Dragon’s funeral (again)! All the women he loved decide to bring him back from the dead because comics! And Trump kicks the main characters out of the country!

Things are getting even crazier in the world of Spider-Gwen, so much so that one hero just isn’t enough.

To be fair, you need all the help you can get when it comes to Harry Osborn, but for Spider-Gwen’s sake, hopefully Wolverine decides to side with her. That’s not a fight she wants to get involved in otherwise.

Matt Mueller Round 2: ‘Bombshells United’ #1

The fan favorite series is back, and Wonder Woman will be forced to fight her former allies.

Set in 1943, Wonder Woman becomes the focus when Cassie Sandsmark and Donna Troy surface in need of her help, and Wonder Woman isn’t going to like who is at the root of the danger. 

Bombshells United #1 is written by Marguerite Bennett with art by Marguerite Sauvage. Rachel Dodson, Terry Dodson, and Babs Tarr provide the book’s covers, and you can find the official description below.

Who knew comic conventions could complicate your love life so much?

For Cleo Lovedrop, the newest comic convention just brings more drama, but not in a way you might expect.

Cleo Lovedrop is trying to be a good girlfriend for Myrtle, but things don’t go quite as planned. Charlie Ridgely: ‘Jean Grey’ #6

The quest to rid herself of the Phoenix legacy continues in Jean Grey #6, and for this, there are none more qualified than the Sorcerer Supreme.

He might not be as powerful as he once was, but he’s still Doctor Strange. Hopefully for Jean, he can find some way to quiet the voices in her head.
