Katie Cassidy Says Laurel Lance Will Appear In Arrow Season 5 Premiere

Back in July, during The CW DC TV Panel at San Diego Comic Con, Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle revealed that Laurel Lance/Black Canary (aka actress Katie Cassidy) will return this season to Arrow in some form or fashion and appear all over the DC TV Universe. And this past weekend at Salt Lake Comic Con, while discussing how she found out about her character's death, Cassidy revealed that you will next see her in the Season 5 premiere of Arrow.

"I was in New Jersey doing Fan Fest and I found out literally on the Sunday," Cassidy shared. "It was weird. I got an email from my producer and they're like, 'We want to have a meeting.' And I was like, 'Can you just tell me now?' I just had this gut feeling. You know, it's television and in this world, especially, anthing can happen. And I think that's a positive thing, if you think about it. Because maybe, you know, bring them back. I don't know. So, yeah, it was definitely tough, but I appreciate the last four and a half years that they wrote for me. I had such a great arc. As a character and an actor, that is such an amazing character to play and journey to go on."

"And coming up, you will see me in the premiere of Arrow, Season 5," she continued. "Pretty exciting. And I will also be—they announced at Comic Con, which I'm safe to say—across all three shows: Flash, Legends, and Arrow, for this next year. So, I'm excited about that."

Now that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) saved his mother, creating the Flashpoint timeline, it is possible that Laurel is now among the living in the premiere. Though, it could just be a flashback scene.

Newly appointed Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) finds himself challenged as he fights on two fronts for the future of Star City. With Diggle (David Ramsey) back in the military and Thea adamant about hanging up her hood as Speedy (Willa Holland), Team Green Arrow is down to just Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) – but they’re no longer the only vigilantes in town. Green Arrow’s public defeat of Damien Darhk at the end of Season Four has inspired a new crop of masked heroes to step up and defend the city, though their painful inexperience makes them obstacles, rather than allies, in the field. The arrival of a deadly new adversary will force Oliver to confront questions about his own legacy, both as mayor and as the Green Arrow.

Based on the characters from DC, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“The Flash,” “Supergirl”), Marc Guggenheim (“Eli Stone,” “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters”), Andrew Kreisberg (“The Flash,” “Supergirl”), Wendy Mericle (“Desperate Housewives,” “Eli Stone”) and Sarah Schechter (“Supergirl,” “Blindspot”).

Arrow Season 5 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
