Dave Franco has become a busy man in Hollywood. He has two films set to release this year, with three more in post-production. If he -- and perhaps the fans -- have their way, he will lend his voice as well as acting chops to two more, major productions.
ComicBook was able to catch up with the actor on the red carpet of CinemaCon in Las Vegas to discuss The LEGO NINJAGO Movie as well as the dreamcasting for others.
Franco was quick to welcome a return to Young Justice. In November, Season 3 was confirmed for a reboot and many fans are clamoring for him to reprise the role of Edward Nygma/The Riddler when it comes back.
Franco, was open to a return, though nothing seemed to be ready to go.
"Only if you beg for it," he told ComicBook. "No one is knocking on my door, but you tell them and I am there."
The most logical candidate for the baddy in Young Justice Season 3 will be the same threat being seeded in the background of the DC Extended Universe movies: Darkseid and the armies of Apokolips. Fans who finished Young Justice: Invasion will remember seeing Darkseid in the season's final episode. Vandal Savage escaped Earth by commandeering the Warworld. Traveling past Rimbor, Warworld arrives at Apokolips. Savage then uses a boom tube to travel to the surface of Apokolips, where he is greeted by an intimidating figure who steps out of the shadows of Apokolips. Though he is never named, DC Comics fans know that this figure can only be Darkseid.
If his role isn't reprised on the animated film, there is another DC project that would be a tremendous fit for the young actor: Nightwing.
Nightwing, whose real name is Dick Grayson, is known best for being the original Robin in DC Comics. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger with illustrator Jerry Robinson, Grayson first appeared in Detective Comics #38 in April of 1940. After his parents were murdered, giving him something in common with Bruce Wayne, he was taken as the legal ward of Wayne/Batman. He went on to don the title of Robin and fought alongside Batman in many instances across Gotham City.
The Nightwing film, which does not yet have a release date or window, joins the long line of films slated from Warner Bros. and DC Films. Also promised from the studio are two Justice League films, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, and sequels to Man of Steel and Suicide Squad. Two of these films will arrive before 2017 comes to a close with the Patty Jenkins directed Wonder Woman hitting theaters in June and Justice League following it up in November with Batman v. Superman helmer Zack Snyder in the director's chair.
Franco said that with the expansion of the comic-based film industry, combined with the success of so many of the franchises, he would be honored to be part of the landscape -- even if he has yet to be invited.
"Absolutely," he said. "Again, it is one of these things that they can literally go to anybody, but I'm here if they want me."
