Unless you have been living under a rather large rock, then you probably have heard that the DC Extended Universe has already found its Deathstroke. Last year, news broke that Joe Manganiello had secured the role after test footage of the actor in-action was released by Ben Affleck. However, since the casting news broke, fans have become worried about whether Manganiello is as attached to The Batman as they once thought. The solo film has undergone a creative shift thanks to its new director Matt Reeves, and reports indicate a script rewrite is also underway.

With so much change, it’s easy for fans to worry over whether Manganiello has retained his place in the DCEU – but it looks like on DC Comics creator is set on having the star play Deathstroke. The co-creator of Deathstroke is all for Manganiello’s take on the villain, and Marv Wolfman opened up about his support for the star on Facebook.

Taking to social media, the creator posted a photo of him eating lunch with Manganiello with a touching caption.

“After a great lunch with Joe Manganiello, I feel more confident than ever that we got both the Slade Wilson the movies need and the Deathstroke great movies deserve,” Wolfman wrote.

Most fans would agree with the creator’s statement. Since Manganiello went public with his casting, the star has stressed how hard he is preparing for the role. Most recently, the actor spoke with Total Film about his prep for The Batman, and Manganiello is doing more than just working out.

“I’m very excited,” he told the magazine. “I just started kung fu, qigong and cutting with a live katana blade.

“I grew up rooting for the villain. These characters mean so much to so many people and there’s a real opportunity to polarise the audience or have them walk away maybe not agreeing with my character but understanding why he does what he does. That’s a really fun challenge.”

The Batman is a tentative title for the DCEU Batman solo film, which is still expected to star Ben Affleck, under the direction of Matt Reeves, based on a script co-written by Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck. No release date has been set, but speculation is that production will start sometime late(r) this year.
