Ben Affleck, who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman in the DC Extended Universe, recently discussed his character’s growth in an interview with US Weekly. As he explained, Bruce has a new outlook on his superhero activities – largely due to the impact from Clark Kent/Superman’s (Henry Cavill) death.
“In Batman v Superman, he was at the end of his rope.” Affleck revealed. “But in Justice League, he’s finding hope again. He has to open up and play well with others. He knows he needs them.”
Affleck isn’t the only one to address Batman‘s more hopeful ideology. Justice League producer Jon Berg previously argued that it’s always been at the root of Affleck’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader.
“It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life.” Berg explained last year. “Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”
But even with this new attitude, Bruce will have to put in the effort to gel with his new teammates, according to Affleck.
“He’s sort of the ultimate loner, but he’s really trying to make it work and develop a good relationship with all of them,” Affleck added.
The actor also highlighted Bruce’s dynamic with one particular team member, which has gotten plenty of attention in Justice League‘s promotional material.
“He might be a mentor to The Flash,” Affleck teased.
