With the theatrical success of Wonder Woman, it's hard to imagine anyone but Gal Gadot as the iconic superhero. But in 2011 Adrianne Palicki almost became the face of the Amazon princess on television. Now, Palicki is speaking out about her failed turn as Wonder Woman.
Palicki, who is now starring on Fox's The Orville, was famously cast as Wonder Woman for David E. Kelley's prospective Wonder Woman series on NBC. Palicki filmed the pilot, but the series was abandoned and the pilot episode never aired. The actress tells The Hollywood Reporter that while losing the series was difficult, she is grateful she got to suit up as Wonder Woman even briefly.
"I was devastated when the pilot didn't go," Palicki said. "But I also look at it, like, I got paid to wear that costume. And that is one of the coolest moments of my life running down Hollywood Boulevard. Like, that was so cool. And I was -- how lucky am I."
Palicki may consider herself lucky to have gotten to wear the costume, but when fans got their first look at Palicki's Wonder Woman back in 2011 the response was largely negative. Fans were critical of the bright, latex-like costume that featured Palicki's Wonder Woman in pants.
Palicki got another opportunity to take a super heroic turn, though. She went on to play Bobbi Morse on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D before coming on board Seth MacFarlane's The Orville and for Palicki, she's able to look back on her experience as Wonder Woman as part of what lead her to her current success and is glad that an on-screen Wonder Woman didn't fade away with the NBC series.
"And you know, everything for a reason," Palicki said. "It led me here. You know what I mean? So as dark as those moments were back in the day, I'm happy and so glad that somebody else gets to wear that costume. I'm so glad that [Gal Gadot is] rocking it."0comments
