If there’s one person vexing Batman fans right now, it would be Deathstroke. The character is one of DC’s most iconic villains, but his future in the DCEU seems up in the air right now. So, it’s not surprising that Joe Manganiello trolled fans about the role using social media.

Over on Twitter, DCEU fans were sent into a tizzy because of a simple post. Manganiello retweeted an article which contains reported details about Ben Affleck’s script for The Batman. The piece itself focused on how Deathstroke fit into the movie, and Manganiello replied to the article with a vague sword emoji.
As you might expect, fans were quick to respond to Manganiello’s message. The DCEU fandom began to inundate the actor with questions about the post. After all, reports have circulated as of late that The Batman has ditched Deathstroke in recent re-writes.

Given Manganiello’s tweet, fans are thinking the actor is trolling netizens about his character being written out. The article the actor retweeted said Affleck’s original treatment for The Batman saw the villain set up a series of traps which beat “the crap” out of Bruce Wayne. The storyline, which was based heavily on David Fincher’s The Game, saw Deathstroke play with Batman in a series of sadistic games that would break any weaker person.
The retweet may signal that the script reports are accurate. It could also mean that Deathstroke’s ‘playful’ bit in The Batman is still kicking behind-the-scenes at Warner Bros. Matt Reeves has been brought in to direct The Batman, leaving him in-charge of the film’s script now. The director has said he wants the solo film to take on a noir tone, so Manganeillo could still bring Deathstroke’s mysterious games to life.
Still, fans are hesitant to take the retweet as a good or bad sign. Back in July, Manganiello was asked point-blank about his DCEU future by The Hollywood Reporter, and his answer was rather vague. When asked if he had any information about his Deathstroke role, Manganiello had the following to say:
“I don’t. Well, I do but nothing that I can share. I know everything but I can’t say any of it.”
Maybe – just maybe – the actor can tweet about it then.
