Gotham, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and WBTV Go LEGO for LEGO Batman Movie Release

With The LEGO Batman Movie out this week, WBTV is getting in on the fun, celebrating the release with a change to their studio billboards, found on the outer wall of the WB Studios in Burbank, California: they’ve gone LEGO. Fellow DC Comics Super Heroes from Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Gotham get the LEGO treatment in new banners, joined by WBTV comedies The Big Bang Theory, Mom, 2 Broke Girls, and The Middle. Even Ellen Degeneres gets into the fun with a LEGO Ellen show banner.

The banners aren’t simple artists renderings done in the style of LEGO though. These are actual pictures of LEGO builds; each billboard took more than 10,000 LEGO bricks and collectively took 300 hours of building and compositing. Those hand-built sets lend an extra authenticity to the promotion. LEGO Batman would be so proud. WB’s press release says they also took 70 hours to install; but they assured LEGO Batman they got it “on the first try.”

The banners are up at WB Studios today, so LA-area fans can drive by today. LEGO Batman, Robin, and Batgirl were on site for the unveiling, which also featured stars of Two Broke Girls and The Middle on hand.

In addition, The CW’s super hero shows this week will include special show-closing cards inspired by LEGO. Tune into Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow February 6-8 to see the LEGO versions of their characters, and see LEGO Batman crash Berlanti Productions’ logo.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure when The LEGO Batman Movie opens nationwide on Friday, February 10. It stars Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson and Ralph Fiennes. Directed by Chris McKay, the film is produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Roy Lee, with executive producers Jill Wilfert, Matthew Ashton, Will Allegra and Brad Lewis. The screenplay is by Seth Grahame-Smith and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers and Jared Stern & John Whittington; story by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on LEGO Construction Toys and based on characters from DC Entertainment. Batman created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger; Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
