When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally released in theaters, the film paved the way for the Justice League to unite and face a foe more powerful than any they’ve ever faced.

Hinted at in Batman’s post-apocalyptic dream sequence and further clarified in a Lex Luthor-centric deleted scene posted online shortly after the film’s premiere, the film was clearly leading to a showdown with the evil New Gods of Apokalypse. But Justice League—ComicBook.com’s 9th Most Anticipated Film—was announced not to include Darkseid but his son Steppenwolf, announced to be portrayed by Ciarán Hinds.
Well, that might just be the tip of the iceberg, because new rumors are suggesting that the Justice League film might actually showcase Darkseid after all. At least, according to the Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez in a recent live video.
Gonzalez took to Periscope to talk about various hints about different superhero films, and eventually began talking about Justice League after fans asked about Darkseid.

Gonzalez said that his sources indicated that Darkseid will have a presence in Justice League, but that the character “doesn’t really speak in the movie.”
“You see him and you feel his presence, but you don’t hear him talk.”
Gonzalez prefaced this by saying his reporting is on the page, and his live video chats are for “speculation and inside baseball.”
There’s still a lot of time between now and the premiere of Justice League, so a lot can definitely change regarding Darkseid’s appearance in the movie. Whether the character is fully CGI or motion captured, in an intro scene or post-credits stinger, all of that could be in the air until the film actually hits theaters. But it sounds like DC and Warner Bros. might be taking the character in a route like Marvel did for Thanos.
We’ll find out more as the film gets closer to being released. Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
