In the time-hopping world of the DC TV universe's Legends of Tomorrow, familiar faces aren't always exactly who we think they are, and in the upcoming Season Three this will ring especially true for two of the show's characters.

At San Diego Comic-Con last month, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that fans would see Arthur Darvill and Wentworth Miller return as Rip Hunter and Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold, respectively. But more details are emerging that indicate that Hunter and Snart aren't going to be their usual old selves.

At the Television Critics Association press tour, Guggenheim told Collider that Snart will be back, but he won't be the same character that his buddy Mick Rory remembers, explaining that the show is always doing something new with Snart.

"I think the fact that we killed off Leonard in season one, it basically made it incumbent upon us, every time we do bring Wentworth [Miller] back, to do it in a different way," Guggenheim said. "We have a really, really cool way of bringing him back this year, but I haven't even pitched it to the network yet. We're excited, but we haven't even had a chance to tell Wentworth."

As for Rip Hunter, he's not a villain like he was for part of Season Two, but the Legends are going to bump heads with him. At Comic-Con, executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed that the Legends will be squaring off with Hunter's Time Masters.

"Last season, the Legends were the only game in town. Now they're competing with the best and brightest," Klemmer said. "Rip Hunter has reconstituted what the Time Masters were, so the existential question for the Legends is where do we fit into this universe."

But it's not all alternative versions of characters that we'll see in Season Three. Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) will also return, this time from after his death in season four of Arrow.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow will return on Tuesday, October 10th, following The Flash.
