‘Supergirl’ Recap With Spoilers: “The Faithful”

“The Faithful” starts off with two gentlemen having a conversation in the middle of their flight. In the middle of the conversation, the plane starts hitting some turbulence and it’s shown that one of the engines has ignited and the plane crash lands in a body of water.

It’s revealed that the plane was the one Kara saved at the beginning of the series.

Act I

Samanta is watching Ruby at a soccer game when she’s approached by a lady who knows both of their names.  She hands Samantha a brochure and invites her to some sort of church-like gathering.

At CatCo, Kara, Lena, and Samantha are talking about ways to celebrate the merger when Kara notices the church brochure on Samantha’s desk — she asks to keep it.

Later in the day, James and Winn approach Kara at CatCo and ask her about the brochure.  Kara reveals the brochure has the Krypton symbol for Rao on the cover and they need to investigate it further.

The group decides to go to the gathering to see what it’s all about.  When they get there, they’re immediately approached by a younger member who directs them to their seats.  The older gentleman we saw on the plane at the beginning of the episode steps the podium and he reveals the cult’s name is “Children of Rao.”

He begins his sermon, stating that they’ve all gathered together because Supergirl saved them.

Act II

The church leader continues his sermon and picks Olivia — the girl the group approached at the begging of the service — out of the crowd.  Olivia walks up to the podium and tells her story — in a drunken stupor, Olivia almost fell to her death after falling off a roof but she was saved by Supergirl.

The group ends the service by praying to Supergirl.

Back at the DEO, Winn’s running background checks on the church leader — a man by the name of Thomas Coville — and they find out that the church is made up of everyone saved by Supergirl.

Kara tells the group that Coville knows way too much about Rao and Krytpon mythology and orders them to dig deeper.

Kara, Lena, Samantha, Alex, and Maggie are having their girls night celebrating the merger as they go around sharing stories.  Kara is called away because a building’s on fire and when she gets there, she finds a ma that needs saving.

Once he’s safe on the ground, he’s approached by Olivia congratulating on becoming a member of the church since he’s been saved by Supergirl.

Act III

Maggie shows up to the scene and Kara tells her that the kid purposefully set the fire so that Supergirl would save him and he could join Coville’s church.

Ruby’s at Samantha’s office when another CatCo employee busts in.  There’s been a problem with the merger — Morgan Edge has filed an anti-trust complaint.

Kara approaches Coville at the church to ask a few questions about the religion he preaches to his followers.  After a few more questions — Coville stops in his tracks.  He recognizes Kara as Supergirl.  Kara takes off her glasses and orders Coville to stop having the meetings and church gatherings.

After Kara leaves, Coville goes to the back of his church where a larger Krypton artifact is being kept and with his arms outstretched, he says aloud that he will “save her.”

Act IV

Ruby has fallen asleep on the couch in her mother’s office, waiting for her to get done with work.  Lena walks in and Samantha informs her that she’s gotten the complaint dismissed.  Samantha then breaks down to Lena — she said she feels like she’s the worst mother because she feels she hasn’t given Ruby enough of her time.

Kara’s out on the balcony brooding over National City when James approaches her.  The two talk about Coville’s misguided teachings.  Kara admits that she doesn’t know how to stop Coville — she can’t stop someone’s beliefs.

Kara heads to the DEO and instructs Winn to run tracking on the Betahedron — the artifact we saw Coville speaking to earlier.  He’s taken it to a local arena during a hockey game.  He’s planning on exploding it so Supergirl comes to save the victims so they can recruit them all to their church.

Act V

Kara flies to the arena in an attempt to stop Coville while Alex speeds there on her bike.  Kara approaches Coville about his actions and Coville tells her that he plans on setting the Betahedron off in attempt to convert all 15,000 people in the stadium to their religion.

Kara approaches the Betahedron and she collapses — there’s Kryptonite in it.  Coville keeps preaching to his followers that Supergirl will save them, but Kara cuts her hand to show them all she bleeds.

Seeing her blood, Coville tries shutting off the Betahedron and presses the wrong buttons and activates it.  Alex runs in and takes the Kryptonite out of the Betahedron, but it’s too late — it’s about to explode.  With no time to flie the explosive out of the stadium, Kara uses her heat vision to blow a hole in the floor and Alex, with the help of Coville, push the Betahedron into the holding, avoiding a huge disaster.

Act VI

Coville is seen imprisoned and Kara has come to visit.  She makes sure they’re treating him well.  She asks whether or not he’s going to tell anyone her identity and he tells her he has forgotten the human name she told him.

Coville explains that he now knows Rao’s purpose for him, to help Supergirl be less distracted.

Kara, Alex, Lena, and Samantha are at a talent show.  A group of girls dressed as Supergirl perform a dance.

We see Ruby begin singing ‘Pure Imagination’ from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and an emotional Alex runs out of the auditorium.  Kara chases and the two talk about Maggie’s thoughts about not having kids.  Alex tells her sister how much she wants kids.

The episode ends with Kara repeating the hologram of her mother as ‘Hallelujah’ by Jeff Buckley plays in the background.

Samantha is getting ready for the night and when she closes her medicine cabinet, she’s startled to find writing on her face and hands and a mysterious hooded figure behind her.

Ruby walks in to find her mother sobbing on the floor.  We then get a flashback to the scene at the hockey rink when the Betahedron is dropped through the floor.  When it explodes, it activates one of the pods in Reign’s submerged ship we saw earlier in the season and a hand presses against the glass.
