Pokemon Go‘s Adventure Week is underway, which means your neighborhood should be filled with lots of different Rock-Type Pokemon. Rock-Type Pokemon are a decidedly mixed bag – they’re strong against Fire, Flying, and Ice-Type Pokemon, but weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground and Steel-Type attacks. Luckily, Rock-Type Pokemon can absorb a bit of damage due to their naturally high defense stats, so you’ll still see a lot of Rock-Type Pokemon in many gyms.

If you’re curious as to which Rock-type Pokemon are the strongest in Pokemon Go, we’ve listed the five strongest Rock-Types in the game based on CP. Each slide will also list that Pokemon’s best moveset, based on “damage per second.”

5) Aerodactyl

Max CP:ย 2608

Best Moveset:ย Steel Wing/Hyper Beam

Aerodactylย is a unique Rock/Flying dual-type, which means it has some radically different resistances and weaknesses compared to other Rock-Type Pokemon. As a Flying-Type Pokemon, Aerodactylย loses its weaknesses to Grass, Fighting, and Ground-Type Pokemon, but at the cost of picking up weaknesses to Electric and Ice-Type Pokemon.ย

Aerodactylย has a strong Attack stat, but doesn’t have a great moveset that takes advantage of it.ย Itย can only use one Rock-Type attack, which means it can’t take advantage of a same type attack bonus. It also has a surprisingly weak Defense stat for a Rock-Type Pokemon, which limits its effectiveness in gyms.ย

4) Omastar

Max CP:ย 2685

Best Moveset:ย Water Gun/Hydro Pump

Omastarย has a lot of the upsides of a Rock-Type Pokemon, but without a few of the disadvantages. Omastarย has a great Defense stat and above average Attack stat, and also doesn’t have a weakness to Water-Type attacks thanks to its own Water-Typing. Omastarย is best used as a Water-Type Pokemon, as its strongest moves are all Water-Type attacks. Omastar’sย probably best used as a low level gym defender, as it can probably do a bit of damage early on in a gym battle.ย ย

3) Golem

Max CP:ย 2916

Best Moveset:ย Rock Throw/Stone Edge

Golem is about to become a lot more common in gyms due to the Adventure Week event. Golemย has exceptionally high Defense stats and decent Attack and Stamina stats, plus it has the potential to learn one ofย Pokemon Go‘s strongest movesets: Rock Throw and Stone Edge. Rock Throw and Stone Edge can dish out a lot of damage when measured by damage per second, so Golemย can either be a top level defender or an anchor of a strong attacking team.ย

2) Rhydon

Max CP:ย 3300

Best Moveset:ย Mud Slap/Stone Edge

If you’re measuring by CP, Rhydonย is the third strongest Pokemonย inย Pokemonย Go. Rhydonย is considered a top level defender thanks to its high Stamina stat and strong Attack and Defense stats, but its ability to use Stone Edge means that it can be used to attack plenty of gyms too. If you see a Rhydonย looming towards the top a gym, be prepared for one heck of a fight on yourย hands.ย

1) Tyranitar

Max CP:ย 3670

Best Moveset:ย Bite/Stone Edge

Tyranitarย has the highest CP in the game, but its considered to be a bit weaker than Dragoniteย due to the high amount of type weaknesses it has. Although its not quite as invincible as Dragonite, Tyranitarย is still a formidable Pokemon, with an elite Attack stat and top tier Defense and Stamina stats. Tyranitarย can do it all, either as a top level gym defender, or as an attack Pokemonย that can easily shrug off most low level attacks from defenders.ย
