One of the newer installations inSquare Enix’s DC Universe Variant Play Arts Kai line of collectible figures, this take on the Joker from the mind that influenced both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy certainly paints the Batman villain in a different light, one that allows for several different possibilities and character designs due to the interchangeable parts that are included with the figure. Previous projects in the line of Play Arts Kai figures include a similarly sleek take on both Batman and Catwoman that were both created in recent years.
Seven detachable heads will accompany the figure as well as a striking exoskeleton-wheelchair accessory, the latter of which is perhaps the most noticeable change to the iconic villain. Several of the included interchangeable heads feature some of the most recognizable features of the Joker such as the sickly green hair and some familiar expressions and sneers. One of the heads certainly looks as though it was heavily influenced by the games that Nomura is most known for, an inspiration seen through the flowing hairstyle that so many characters in games from both of the series seem to have.
The typical Joker face is still available, of course, if you prefer a more classic take on the character. A more colorful rendition of the Joker comes from the ornate harlequin mask, but the silver-haired head that seems to accompany the wheelchair accessory best is perhaps one of the more interesting options out of all of the interchangeable parts. The DC adversary trades in his iconic green hair for a slicked-back silver ‘do, and his usually wild expressions are replaced with a much more serious and reserved look that reflects a significantly aged version of the Joker.
Currently listed on sites such as Amazon Japan, this figure is currently listed at 32,184 yen, a figure that will run consumers for approximately $290. Preorders are currently being accepted, and the figure is expected to be released on Sept. 30.
