An update has been provided on the next installation in the Five Nights at Freddy's series, but the announcement might not be what fans of the games were hoping to hear. The game's creator, Scott Cawthon, posted an update on Steam saying that he had indeed been working on another game which he said fans could call Five Nights at Freddy's 6, but he also wanted to let them know that he was canceling the game as well.

"But after forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something - I just don't want to work on this," Cawthon said. "With each game's release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I've been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations."

Cawthon also said that no details would be revealed about the game that he was working on and has now canceled, and he's asked those close to the project to also keep the information private. In his words, "It's just not going to be talked about."

The game creator isn't leaving the industry though, he's just canceling his next game in the Five Nights at Freddy's series. He'll still be working on creating games, just one's that he finds more enjoyable.

"Does this mean that I'm going to stop working on games altogether?" he said. "No, that's not what it means at all. It just means that I want to get back to what made game-making enjoyable in the first place."

Cawthon cited more reasons for stepping away from the game by saying that he wanted to spend more time with his family in addition to working on games that are more enjoyable for him to create. The Five Nights at Freddy's universe isn't totally being abandoned though as he added that projects are still in the works, specifically a movie.

"There are some big things in the works elsewhere," he assured. "The movie is in amazing hands with Blumhouse. I'm also still working to get a VR title out at some point (because that would be awesome)."

Some readers were disappointed to see that the game was announced and quickly canceled, but others agreed that it might be time for the 2014 series to reach an end and preserve what games it currently has.
