Leading up to E3 2017, there was heavy speculation that Star Wars Battlefront II would be one of the showcase games for Microsoft’s (then unnamed) Xbox One X. Ultimately, publisher EA declined to take sides, showing all their new Star Wars Battlefront II footage at their own EA Play show, rather than at Microsoft or Sony’s E3 press conferences. The question of whether Battlefront II would receive any extra Xbox One X goodies was left open.

Well, it seems folks who shell out for Microsoft’s souped-up console will get some special Star Wars Battlefront II features after all. The Star Wars Battlefront II page on the official Xbox website has quietly added “Xbox One X enhanced” to the game’s description. Microsoft doesn’t clarify what that means, but you can safely guess native 4K and HDR support will be among the Xbox One X-exclusive bullet points. Don’t expect much that will change core gameplay, but then you probably already knew that.
This is the first confirmation that Star Wars Battlefront II will be enhanced on Xbox One X, but Microsoft’s Major Nelson did drop this hint back when the system was still known as Project Scorpioโฆ
“With Project Scorpio coming this Holiday, I can’t wait to experience the Star Wars galaxy like never before. Between EA Access and Project Scorpio, Xbox will be the best place to play your favorite Star Wars heroes.”
Star Wars Battlefront II getting an Xbox One X boost is hardly a shock, as EA is the system’s strongest backer โ moreso than even Microsoft. In addition to Battlefront II, Microsoft touted the Xbox One X versions of Anthem, Madden 18, and FIFA 18 in a big way. So why didn’t EA make a bigger deal out of Battlefront II on Xbox One X at E3? Well, there are rumors PlayStation VR is also getting exclusive Battlefront II content, so again, EA probably didn’t want to appear to be taking sides.
