Yesterday during the D23 Expo Level Up! livestream, Square Enix made a lot of Disney fans very happy when they unveiled a Toy Story World and a rough release date for Kingdom Hearts III. You don’t want to be greedy, but you know what would have made all the Kingdom Hearts III news even more exciting? If Square Enix had announced you could play the game on the go on the Nintendo Switch! The game does have a relatively simple cartoon art style – if the Switch can do Zelda, it should be able to do Kingdom Hearts, right?

Well, IGN posed the Switch question to Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura at D23, and he seemed open to supporting Nintendo’s new console, although there was one condition…

“The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms.’ So, for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts III on. And so, after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”

Well, that’s certainly fair. Nomura doesn’t need any more distractions – Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake are enough to keep anybody busy. Nomura also said he was open to bringing previous KH games and remasters to the Xbox One, but again, not until Kingdom Hearts III is ready to go. Keep your eye on the prize, Nomura!

Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled to hit the Xbox One and PS4 sometime in 2018. You can check out WWG’s latest coverage of the game, right here.
