In case you missed it, the new trailer for the Call of Duty: WWII Zombies mode just dropped, and it shows just what kind of devotion the team at Sledgehammer Games are putting into it, with a very scary motif and all sorts of darkness to get through. Good luck surviving this one.
But this is just the beginning. The Call of Duty: WWII Zombies panel is currently taking place at San Diego Comic-Con, hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, and while there isn’t any sort of live stream happening from the panel, the official Call of Duty Twitter account is providing all sorts of details, some of which we’ve broken down for you below.

First off, when it came to crafting the horror for the upcoming mode, co-founder of Sledgehammer Games Michael Condrey summed up the idea quite nicely. “That dread. That fear of the unknown. That’s where you can really get people,” he explained โ and the trailer kind of hammers that point home.
Cameron Dayton, creative director for the studio, added, “We’re building this story that’s based on characters.” And that’s a bit of deviation from some of the earlier Zombies modes out there, though ones like Shadows of Evil and Zombies In Spaceland have established a little more story over the years โ but, clearly, nothing this dark.
When it came to what the characters are doing in the zombie-infested area to begin with, Sledgehammer’s Jon Horsely explained that it has to do with finding stolen goods. “They deployed small units looking for stolen art. They find much more than that, howeverโฆ” It seems like the team involved stumbles upon Doktor Straub’s zombie-creation lair where they soon find their hands full.
But what’s really cool is that, like previous Zombies modes created by Treyarch, it’s going to be loaded with secrets. “It’s going to be the hardest Easter Egg hunt you’ve ever been on,” he explained, indicating that the team will be pouring in all sorts of goodies.
And, on top of that, the actors had plenty to say. First up, Ving Rhames gave a big shout-out to the Call of Duty community. “I wanna give a shout to all the fans that are out ther today supporting the reveal,” he noted.
Elodie Young expressed her support as well, noting, “As long as a project is creative โ I’m in!” And, finally, Katheryn Winnick noted that her character, Marie Fischer, is a lot more than she seems. “She’s not only a very brilliant engineer, but she kicks ass.”
