Prison of Elders will not be making its return to Destiny 2. Not yet, anyway. After a few days of rampant rumors, a member of the Bungie community team chimed in on the Destiny sub-Reddit, saying: “No current plans to bring PoE to D2. This is just some leftover bits. Pardon our dust. Just dust and echoes.” The “leftover bits” he’s referring to is code.

Chunks of code pointed to an icon and information about Prison of Elders, and so it seemed safe to assume that it would be revealed soon, but then Bungie stepped in to clear things up with the above statement.

A few days ago, the Destiny 2 community was in a tizzy over reports that some data-miners had uncovered evidence indicating the return of the “Prison of Elders,” a fantastic PvE playlist in the original Destiny that pitted players against unique hordes of enemies, with unique challenges in rules, for unique rewards. You can think of Prison of Elders like a mini-raid battle.

This comes as a somewhat timely blow to the Destiny 2 player-base, which has been complaining about the lack of significant end-game appeal after the power level cap is reached. Prison of Elders provided all of the thrill and community appeal of a Strike, but without all of the fluff; it was straight to the firefights, and a lots of them! We’d be surprised if Bungie decided not to bring this back at all, so keep your eyes and ears open. We bet we’ll be hearing more about Prison of Elders before it’s all said and done.

Is Prison of Elders a game mode you’d love to see come back? Are you getting burned out on strikes and the raid (even with its prestige mode)? If so, chime in on Facebook and Twitter and let us know!
