A new patch for Overwatch confirms that action is being taken against the overpowered Mercy by toning down her resurrection power.

When Mercy’s Resurrect ability was moved to a normal move instead of just being her ultimate, it was a huge change for the hero. It seemed at the time like it’d be quite a strong move to have on a normal ability, albeit one with a high cooldown, and after the changes went live, it proved to be exactly that. Her powers have been pretty overbearing recently in Overwatch, and this latest patch takes a hard swing at the healing support.

Mercy’s changes that are seen below are definitely an overall nerf, but a change to her new ultimate takes away one part of the nerf for a brief time.

Mercy

  • Resurrect
    • Cast time increased from 0 seconds to 1.75 seconds
    • Mercy’s movement speed is now reduced by 75% while casting
    • Can now be interrupted when Mercy is knocked back, stunned, or hacked
  • Valkyrie
    • When activated, Resurrection no longer has a cast time

Regarding the reasoning behind these changes, the devs say that Mercy’s rework has been successful for the most part, but Resurrect is still way too strong.

“We feel that Mercy’s recent rework has been successful, but her Resurrect ability still feels too strong and frustrating to play against,” the Overwatch devs said in the patch notes. “Now that it has a cast time, there is more room for enemies to counter the ability. However, casting Resurrect happens instantly when Valkyrie is active. This should make her feel powerful when she transforms on the battlefield.”

Aside from Mercy’s nerfs, another healer, Ana, also had one change detailed in the patch notes. She won’t be healing her teammates any more than she already is, but she’ll be a slightly bigger threat with her Biotic Rifle damage being increased.

Ana

  • Biotic Rifle
    • Damage increased from 60 to 70

These changes are currently being tested on Overwatch’s PTR and could change during the process, but expect to see some form of them in the next patch.
