Last week, we reported the news that Activision’s Call of Duty film already has a director in consideration – Sicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima. And while those negotiations are still ongoing (nothing’s been finalized just yet), Sollima has already sounded off on who he’d like to see in the forthcoming video game-to-film adaptation.

While speaking with Metro, Sollima made a few of his choices very clear – Wonder Woman‘s Chris Pine and Venom’s Tom Hardy. He seems to “like almost everything” that Hardy has been in, and, when it comes to Pine, he feels that he’s “tough, but he’s smart, and he can have a sense of humor, but he can (also) be in such a dramatic role.”
“I like when you feel that an actor can play with different nuances and tone because this means they’re a good actor,” Sollima explained.
Obviously, nothing’s been finalized yet – again, Sollima even has yet to be signed to the project officially – but it’s nice to see some thought going into the casting already. But it’ll be a while before things start moving forward into production, as Activision wants to hit the ground running with Call of Duty the right way, since it wants to make a cinematic universe out of the franchise.
But the choices are good ones. Hardy has established himself as a great actor over the years, with projects like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight Rises, as well as his forthcoming work in Venom. Not to mention Pine, who’s done great work in the Star Trek films as Captain James T. Kirk, as well as his recent turn in Wonder Woman and his forthcoming appearance in Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time, which opens next month.
Of course, we’ll probably see a few other actor choices made as Sollima gets closer to solidifying his position on the project, and we’ll see who makes the cut as the film gets closer to production. It doesn’t currently have a release date, so we’ll keep you informed on any progress it makes.
For the time being, if you’re looking for a cinematic Call of Duty experience, you can check out Call of Duty: WWII now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
