With an hour-long stream, Nintendo’s latest Direct has thrown a bunch of stuff at players today, and there’s a lot to talk about. From Resident Evil to Dinkum, the Switch 2’s library is looking better than ever, and Mario’s 40th birthday celebration means that fans got more Mario news than ever. While we didn’t see a new Super Smash Bros., Witchbrook, or Animal Crossing, that just means there’s even more to look forward to next quarter. For those who missed the Nintendo Direct or can’t quite remember it all, here are the four most important things you missed.

4. Super Mario Galaxy Returns With New Movie and Re-Releases of Both Games

As part of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary celebration, fans of Super Mario Galaxy got a few fun surprises. First up was an official confirmation of the Super Mario Galaxy movie that was rumored based on a new Universal trademark in July. The movie, set to feature the same voice cast as 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, will be premiering in the spring of 2026 and follow the expanded world of the Super Mario Galaxy franchise.

Alongside the movie, an official Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 combo game for the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced. While it’s not the Super Mario Galaxy 3 announcement that many fans were hoping for, die-hard appreciators of some of the best 3D Mario games ever made are jumping at the chance to play the games on the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware. The bundle will retail for $70 together or $40 for each individual game and will release on October 2, 2025.

3. Hades 2 Full Release Confirmed for September 25th

The wait is finally over for Switch players with the official announcement of Hades 2‘s Switch 2 release date. After months in early access, Hades 2 comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 officially on September 25th, releasing exclusively on consoles for the Switch 2 on that date in addition to PC. Thankfully, with the Switch 2 release less than two weeks away and the physical version available November 26th, there’s not long left to wait for this highly-anticipated game.

2. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Announced for 2026

In a new installment in the mainline Fire Emblem series comes Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which was announced for release sometime in 2026. Featuring classic FE gameplay and characters old and new, players will take on the challenges posed in the Heroic Games, an event that will test your prowess and cunning. Not much is known about the story thus far, but the wide breadth of characters shown in the Direct indicates that there may be some Three Houses crossover, or that Fortune’s Weave might even be a sequel.

Between the Heroic Games and whatever main conflict Fortune’s Weave might cook up, fans are hoping this Fire Emblem can stack up to previous entries in the series. There are sure to be plenty of info drops about the game’s roster, special features, and story in future Directs and Nintendo announcements, so fans should keep an eye out before its release in 2026.

1. Pokemon Legends: Z-A New Mega Evolutions and More

While we’ve known about Pokémon Legends: Z-A for a while, every new piece of info we get ramps up anticipation for the next mainline Pokémon release even more. In the Direct, new Mega Evolutions were revealed alongside official gameplay footage, and it’s looking like Z-A won’t face many of the issues Scarlet and Violet players complained about. With the new Megas revealed in the past few weeks, the trailer also showed Mega Chestnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja in battle with their trainers.

In an interesting move, Nintendo also announced Legends: Z-A‘s paid DLC before the game is even out. The DLC, titled Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension, got very little explaining other than two Mega forms for Raichu. While little is known about the DLC, so it’s hard to judge this early, it is a pretty brave move to announce it before gauging the reception of the base game. It seems Nintendo is certain they’ve learned from past games in the series, which should give players some confidence that Legends: Z-A is going to be a high-quality Pokémon experience.
