Borderlands 4 players are “gutted” after Gearbox Software removed a feature that was first introduced in Borderlands 2, then brought back with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and then again with Borderlands 3. Of course, it is possible that Gearbox will bring back the feature in a future update, which there will be many. Right now, though, there is no promise of this, and in the meantime, fans of the post-apocalyptic and zany looter-shooter series aren’t very happy.

As Borderlands 4 fans have been learning since the game’s launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X earlier this month, the new game makes many changes from Borderlands 3, including some major gameplay changes. Some of these changes have gone down well, others have not. That said, whoever at Gearbox decided not to bring back slot machines, well, that was the wrong call.
“I Miss Them So Much”
One of the top posts right now on the Borderlands Reddit page is a post frustrated that Gearbox removed slot machines from Borderlands 4. And as the popularity of the post suggests, many feel this way. As for the post itself, it argues that not only was the mechanic fun, but it would help a larger problem with the game, which is that money feels worthless.
“Bring back slot machines. Money is worthless,” reads the title of the post in question. “Not only were they a good money sink for rolling for legendaries, but also just a fun thing to do while waiting for a friend to do something or such instead of just standing around. Or if you don’t want ‘gambling’, then something for us to spend our money on, as there is nothing worth it right now, so picking up and selling stuff is only worth it to clean up loot spots to look at loot easier.”
Not only does the number of votes up suggest there is something to this sentiment, but the comments almost exclusively echo the complaint and request.
“I was gutted after searching Moxxi Place,” referring to looking for slots but not finding them. Another comment adds: “I miss them so much. Were people actually worried about gambling fake money in a mature game where Iโm literally running around blowing everythingโs head off?”
As alluded to, there is a lot about Borderlands 4 that Borderlands fans aren’t digging. While our own review awarded the game a solid 4/5, its user reviews across the Internet are much lower. For example, on Steam, it has a “Mixed” rating. Some of the complaints are over performance issues, which are plentiful, but many are also about removed features and missing content, like slot machines and FOV sliders.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Do you agree with this complaint from BL4 fans?
