Earlier this month, we showcased a new tabletop that will be hitting the shelves soon from the creators of the original horror game Betrayal at House on the Hill. The latest game to hit tabletops, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, is the perfect tale of betrayal, intrigue, and good ‘ol fashioned paranoia. It’s also perfect for D&D fans, with tons of Easter eggs nodding towards similar games of this genre. Courtesy of Avalon Hill, ComicBook.com was given an early peek into the latest game and it was everything a Baldur’s Gate fan could possibly want.

Betrayal at Baldur’s Game is a cooperative game for 3-6 players ripe for exploration within this mysterious city. As the game progresses, one (or more) members in the party will become a traitor to the rest. With a massive in-game world, over 50 different haunts are available for friends to turn against friends and root out the evil. With a theme heavily rooted in betrayal, and catacombs housing horrors beyond imagination, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate really is the perfect experience for both veterans of tabletop, and D&D specifically, and newbies looking to learn more.

Desiccated Heart is an event card, these are fairly common throughout the game and are always a hit or miss. Which would you choose? Lose might, but gain sanity; or lose your sanity to become stronger? Which would you choose?ย

Cursed Armorย gives the player great strength, but at a huge risk. The armor “makes you feel like you can stand up to anyone,” but should you lose control – the players also loses a bit of their sanity. This is also an item that will be very familiar to those that have enjoyed D&D in the past.ย

Cloak of the Batย is a limited item, but could make or break a player’s chance for survival. If damage is being dealt, it does offer a chance for a buff as well as a single space margin of maneuverability.ย

Players will find catacombs and streets to explore within the world of Betrayal at Baldur’sย Gate,ย some places will end up being dead ends, some will provide safety. In addition to Ambush Alley, which will cause the player to draw an event card, there are also other places that members can find themselves; including trading posts that allow for players to take a pick of something they want out of a draw pile.ย

The haunts within this game are intricately done and is really fun to play. The team over at Avalon Hill are familiar with this brand of gamestyle and because of that, it’s really fluid and easy to maneuver, while presenting surprising elements that make up a vastly entertaining experience. The replayability is also high, one of many reasons being the random draws.ย

Between the inside jokes, the thorough layout, and the overall design; Betrayal at Baldur’sย Gate isย a game highly recommended for those in the market for a new tabletop experience.ย

Betrayal at Baldur’sย Gate is currently available for pre-order and retails for $50.00 here at their official website. For the full list of what the game comes up with, check out our box guide below:ย
