Players can expect to receive a couple of bonus rune pages once the Runes Reforged changes roll out, though some of them won't be entirely customizable.

The discussion of how rune pages would be implemented in the new rune system has been a hot one since the revolutionary system was revealed. Veteran players were concerned that their rune pages they purchased wouldn't be fully utilized since the new rune pages can be edited in the pre-game lobby while newer players expressed concern at not having enough pages to avoid editing every game, but everyone will get a couple to help them start out.

"You're going to get five default pages (that are not editable) and two additional free pages to start," an Ask Riot post about the preseason changes explained. "Additionally, if you have unlocked any Rune Pages, you'll continue to keep them in the new system as extra pages."

The two bonus rune pages that everyone gets to edit is an obvious plus, but the "default pages" that were mentioned had some players questioning why they weren't editable. Those who like to keep their rune pages tidy also voiced that they might not even want to use the default rune pages and would rather remove them, but Riot Sparkle expanded on the post in a follow-up comment.

"The preset pages mentioned are NOT pages that count towards your page total AT ALL," Riot Sparkles explained. "Eventually we're going to give you the option to even hide these pages in your inventory if you don't want to see them, since they're not intended to work like other pages."

Sparkles said that these default pages act as a fallback so that if you're editing runes against the clock in a pre-game lobby, you'll always have a rune page to fall back on if you don't finish it in time instead of being left without a Keystone. Players will still be encouraged to "explore runes at their own pace," but these rune pages provide a safe option in case you need them while developing your strategies.

The next League of Legends preseason begins on Nov. 8, so look for the new runes and rune pages then.
