Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is all about leading a band of Mario’s pals (and a variety of Rabbid cosplayers) into strategic battles, but most of the game is strictly single-player. Sadly, a second or third player can’t just grab a controller and join in. Thankfully, Ubisoft has revealed there’s a separate co-op mode that will give friends and family a chance to strategize together. You can check out a demo of the co-op mode, above (try not to fall in love in Mario + Rabbids creative director Davide Soliani’s accent).

Here’s how Ubisoft describes Mario + Rabbids’ co-op mode:

If there’s one thing that the Rabbids have taught us by joining forces with Mario and friends, it’s that teaming up is a very good thing. In Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, players will be able to do just that in the special co-op challenges designed to test your teamwork skills.

While the single-player campaign puts you in control of three heroes, these co-op challenges let you and a partner control two heroes each by using Joy-Cons or Pro controllers on a single Switch system. With an extra hero in your squad, there are more strategic possibilities for you to explore as you maneuver through the specially designed stages, provided you and your partner can agree on how to proceed.

I like what I’m seeing! The co-op mission Ubisoft showed was fairly complex, and there looks to be quite a few different co-op stages and missions available. Mario + Rabbids may end up selling for a discounted price, but its co-op mode and full single-player campaign the game certainly won’t lack for content.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle teams up with the Nintendo Switch on August 29. Don’t forget that Amazon Prime members can save 20% when they pre-order – plus you’ll get the lowest price if it changes before the release date.
