Even though most gaming companies prefer to show off their latest reveals at bigger events like the Electronic Entertainment Expo and Gamescom (which is happening next week), there are some that prefer to bring their bigger announcements to the Penny Arcade Expo. Whether it’s the Boston-based PAX East or the upcoming PAX West in Seattle, some companies will be announcing big things at these events.

And with that, Nintendo has something up its sleeve for Washington. The company has revealed that it will be holding a “special” panel on Saturday, September 2nd at 10 AM PDT at the event, to be held in the Hydra Theater. The listing didn’t indicate who would be involved in the panel, or what games would be shown โ€“ only that Nintendo has something cool in mind.

The company has a stellar line-up of games coming for the fall/winter season, including Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Nintendo Switch. There’s also the forthcoming downloadable content for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to take into consideration, so the panel could literally be about any of those โ€“ or, for all we know, all of those.

We’ll certainly be there to see what the “big N” has yet to reveal, but considering that PAX is usually a good community-based event, it wouldn’t surprise us if the panel had something to do with a fan-favorite franchise โ€“ which makes something like Metroid: Samus Returns and Super Mario Odyssey ideal front-runners for what the panel could be about.

Then again, it may be a new announcement entirely. Though Nintendo doesn’t usually do those at events like these, it also doesn’t hold panels that often either, instead opting to have a display on the show floor, as it did earlier this year when it showed off the Nintendo Switch to the public for the first time at the PAX South event in San Antonio, Texas.

We’ll see what the company has in mind sometime over the next few weeks! Look for additional PAX coverage from the show as well!
