Like clockwork, the team at Smosh Games have managed to tackle the Pokemon franchise yet again with its Honest Game Trailers, with a new one that targets the latest entries in the series for 3DS, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. And while it nails down the tropes that we've come to expect from the games, it is a bit on the brutal side when it picking on their nature.

The trailer part is pretty much on the short side, but the remainder of it actually renames a number of the popular (and not-so-popular) characters, including Sphero, Emo Owl, CW's The Arrow, Snarf Snarf, and a handful of others.

Regarding the general points of the trailer, the narrator explains, "In a world where the only certainty is that everything will change, rediscover a series that defies convention by bravely pumping out the same video game with a fresh coat of paint, until the eventual heat death of the universe."

The island where you visit comes with plenty of new Pokemon "to enslave, as well as horrible mutant versions of the classics that will have you catching them all over again." And you'll be "leaving only destruction in your wake, until you become the undisputed champion, earn the right to meet the gods of the islands, and immediately capture them too, because you're a sociopath."

The trailer also discusses a number of Pokemon tropes that you'll come across again, including "the chillest rival ever in the series, a sidekick who's worthless at fighting, and her legendary Pokepal whose only power is not staying in the bag." He also discusses how the enemies pose more than Ginyu Force…and, well, that's kind of right.

He also talks about how the games have the same storyline that Pokemon has had since the beginning – but also noted how no one cares. "Because playing Pokemon for the plot is like watching porn for the character work."

You can watch the whole Pokemon Sun and Moon Honest Game Trailer above, but, yeah, some fans may think it's digging a little bit. But that's really what Smosh Games has done in the past – remember the Crash Bandicoot Honest Game Trailer?

Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon are available now for Nintendo 3DS.
