A little while back, we discussed the return of the talents behind the Parappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man games for a new title called Project Rap Rabbit, one that would no doubt bring back music/rhythm fun to the gaming masses. Well, here’s your chance to take part in the dancing action.

A new Kickstarter has officially kicked off for Rabbit today, with its creators seeking out at least $1.1 million to bring it to life. The game promises to be an “explosive mix of Japanese folklore and traditional artwork, hip hop and humorous battle rap face-offs inspired by the Epic Rap Battles of History YouTube series,” according to the official web page.

The Kickstarter already has a number of promising images for the title, featuring inspired artwork of the hero โ€“ the hip-hop rabbit Toto-Maru โ€“ as well as various side characters. It also discusses why he needs to fight the good fight, a simple farm boy who’s asked to bring down an “Earth shattering calamity” that has fallen upon the world. He begins a “journey for truth, justice and liberty” that promises to introduce him to fierce competitors โ€“ not to mention a handful of memorable allies.

As you can see from the attached screenshots in the gallery, Project Rap Rabbit will feature a unique gameplay system where style is the name of the game, as you manage to capture certain lyrics with your raps, while at the same time taking advantage of other features, such as Coerce, Boast, Laugh and Joke. You can also let emotion play a part of your rap game, which in turn can intimidate your opponent โ€“ and just might push them to try even harder.

The game will also feature competitive leaderboards, so you can tell just how you’re doing when it comes to your friends’ performances. This will no doubt play a big part in the game.

Project Rap Rabbit is primarily for the PlayStation 4 and PC, but there are stretch goals that, if met, could bring it to other systems. For instance, if it reaches $3.1 million, it’ll come to Xbox One. And if it reaches $4.9 million? You’ll get a special Nintendo Switch version to boot. There are a number of other stretch goals as well, along with numerous tiers in which to back the game, including digital copies, other goodies (like an artbook), and the opportunity to attend a voiceover session all the way in Japan!

Thus far, funding has only reached $29,000 at the time of report, but keep in mind the campaign still has 35 days to go, and there are a ton of Parappa and Gitaroo fans out there, so it should no doubt find easy success. We’ll keep you posted on when we can expect to see Project Rap Rabbit make the rounds โ€“ and which platforms it’ll be released on.
