Some of the discussion around Hollow Knight: Silksong has been taken over by arguments over the gameโs difficulty, especially in the early game, and whether developer Team Cherry went too far in increasing the challenge for this sequel. Some players have been seeking ways to make Silksong easier, including mods that nerf enemy damage, while others have discovered a cheat code that instead makes the game harder. Now, it seems like there will be an official patch that will address player concerns.

Team Cherry announced in a Steam post that the first big Silksong update, version 1.0.28470, will be available to players by next week. While it will mostly be about addressing bug fixes, the developer also mentioned that it will contain balance adjustments to the early game, which has a difficulty has been driving some of the debate around Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Early Patch Notes for New Silksong Update
While itโs unclear if the full scope of the changes has been revealed, two early game bosses, Moorwing and Sister Splinter, will be getting slightly nerfed. Some regular enemies will also be getting a reduction in damage output, and the gameโs economy is getting a bit easier with a decrease in prices and an increase in player rosary acquisition.
Below is the currently proposed list of tweaks, though we wonโt know the final list of changes until they are applied to the game next week:
- Fixed situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence.
- Fixed wish Infestation Operation often not being completable during the late game.
- Fixed wish Beast in the Bells not being completable when Bell Beast is summoned at the Bilewater Bellway during the late game.
- Fixed getting stuck floating after down-bouncing on certain projectiles.
- Fixed courier deliveries sometimes being inaccessible in the late game.
- Fixed craft bind behaving incorrectly when in memories.
- Fixed Lace tool deflect soft-lock at start of battle in Deep Docks.
- Fixed Silk Snippers in Chapel of the Reaper sometimes getting stuck out of bounds.
- Fixed Claw Mirrors leaving Hornet inverted if taking damage during a specific moment while binding.
- Fixed Snitch Pick not giving rosaries and shell shards as intended.
- Removed float override input (down + jump, after player has Faydown Cloak).
- Slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.
- Reduction in damage from Sandcarvers.
- Slight increase in pea pod collider scale.
- Slight reduction in mid-game Bellway and Bell Bench prices.
- Slight increase in rosary rewards from relics and psalm cylinders.
- Increase in rosary rewards for courier deliveries.
- Various additional fixes and tweaks.
While these changes appear minor, they will no doubt be a topic of discussion among its more dedicated players who bristle at anything that could lower the difficulty of the game. Part of Silksongโs appeal is its challenge, and a reduction of challenge, they argue, ruins the bragging rights they get for overcoming the gameโs bosses. While I also am in this camp of enjoying high difficulty in games, I am not opposed to developers tuning the difficulty to make things more accessible to players. I can always create my own restrictions to make a game harder, but itโs much more difficult for an inexperienced player to find a way to make things easier.
Regardless of its difficulty, Silksong continues to post mind-blowing player count numbers, which haven’t slowed down much since release. In all likelihood, the game will only continue to get bigger as positive word of mouth continues to spread.
