Those on Steam Deck looking for something to play, and who have nostalgia for the PS2 and original Xbox era of gaming — an era of gaming many consider the greatest — will be happy to know a gem from this time in gaming history is now Verified on Steam Deck. This means that Valve has tested the PC game for the handheld and can confirm it is playable from start to finish, and that it works well with its built-in display and unique controls.

It may seem odd for a PS2 and original Xbox game — in this case, from 2005 — to get Steam Deck verification in 2025, but it’s actually a remake of said game that was released in 2020. Still, for a game to get Verified for Steam Deck five years after its original release is still a surprise for owners of the Valve handheld. As for the game, it is Destroy All Humans from Black Forest Games, Pandemic Studios, and THQ Nordic.
A Very Nostalgic Game + The Sequel
The original Destroy All Humans was released in 2005 by Pandemic Studios and the original THQ. The first game in a four-game series, not including remakes, Destroy All Humans is an action-adventure game that earned a 75 on Metacritic back in the day, which is to say, its reception was positive, but not great. While it wasn’t the best PS2 game, it did sell appreciably. And over the years, both the game and the series developed a cult-classic status. Hence, it was remade in 2020 by Black Forest Games. And in most regards, it is a faithful remake that received a similar reception.
It’s unclear why the sci-fi game is now getting Steam Deck verification, but those on the Valve handheld who want to check it out will need to pay full price, as it is currently not on sale. This means to pay $29.99. For those unfamiliar with the series, it’s not worth paying $30 to introduce yourself to it. That said, the original Destroy All Humans is a very nostalgic game for many. If you are one of these people, paying $30 won’t be a problem. And those who played its sequel will be happy to know its own remake — Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed — is now also Steam Deck Verified.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Meanwhile, if this Steam Deck game doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are plenty of other options. In fact, one of the biggest RPGs left this year is about to release, and when it does, it will be Steam Deck Verified right out the gate.
