Usually, with survival horror games, you have to play a certain way, such as conserving all your ammunition and sometimes running away from something that you really, really want to kill. But Bethesda's forthcoming The Evil Within 2 looks to offer some changes from that.

The game will be a lot more flexible than the original release, as players take control of Sebastian and his arsenal of weapons, which can now be tweaked. Separate resources can be used to upgrade Sebastian and his gear, while at the same time, weapons can be changed up with the help of parts.

There are five different categories in all, according to Bethesda, and they're divided into health, combat, stealth, recovery and athleticism. You can tweak these with Sebastian however you see fit, depending on what sort of play style you want with him. For instance, if you up the ante with stealth, you'll be able to sneak around more easily, whereas if you go with combat, you'll be able to deliver more damage, and try something called a Bullet Cascade, which increases your shot power.

There's also some perks with trees you normally wouldn't mess with. Health, for instance, won't just keep you from succumbing, but can also increase your life gauge altogether, as well as letting you take attacks better than you normally would – something that's quite handy when it comes to staying alive.

How you play is totally up to you, but it wouldn't hurt to experiment with each tree and see what works best for you, especially when it comes to seeing the game through to its conclusion.

As for Parts, you can add new abilities and improve firing rate across a number of weapons this way, as well as maximize the bullet count, so you'll never run short on ammunition – even if you've got all sorts of beasts chasing after you.

The full lowdown on what you can do with the customization system can be found on Bethesda's website, and it's a smorgasbord of information if you're trying to learn a thing or two about the sequel. It certainly doesn't hurt to study up!

The Evil Within 2 releases on October 13th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Don't forget that Amazon Prime members can save 20% when pre-ordering games.
