Well, that may be about to change as the official Tomb Raider Instagram account posted this today.
Now, Tomb Raider regularly posts fan screenshots on Saturday, but this one, which references “what’s to come” seems to hold extra meaning. Earlier this year, Square Enix promised we’d hear something about the next Tomb Raider sometime this year…
“This will be a quiet E3 for Lara, but we’re looking forward to catching up on her new adventure later this year.”
A new Lara Croft adventure, entitled Shadow of the Tomb Raider was leaked in late 2016 and confirmed legit by Kotaku. A later logo and concept art leak solidified the rumors. With Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics focused on The Avengers Project, its believed Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) is taking the lead on the new Tomb Raider game. Aside from that, we don’t know a whole lot about the game, although it should stick closely to the blueprint laid down by the last couple Crystal Dynamics titles.
Square Enix will have a major presence at Gamescom, with Final Fantasy XIV and XV announcements confirmed. Could they also slip in a surprise Shadow of the Tomb Raider unveiling? It would certainly make sense.
The Tomb Raider movie hits theaters on March 16, 2018, and it’s rumored Shadow of the Tomb Raider is targeting a similar timeframe. You can keep up with WWG’s coverage of all things Tomb Raider here.
