Before we get into the next chapter of the Wolfenstein franchise in the next few days, we should remember the game that really started it all for the series, the classic Wolfenstein 3D. This game really thrived back in the heyday of shooters like Doom, and Bethesda and Machine Games certainly haven't forgotten its legacy.

Polygon has recently reported that a version of Wolfenstein 3D is included in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus for players to enjoy. But it has a rather interesting twist this time around – you aren't playing as B.J. Blazkowicz, but rather on the other side.

It's part of the "alternate America" that the Nazis have created in the game, as the developers have apparently asked the question, "What if you play Wolfenstein from the Nazi's perspective?" And that's where Wolfstone 3D comes into play.

You'll find this game in the captured Nazi U-Boat that Blazkowicz and his team transform into their home base, along with music and some drinks to kick back with when they're not saving the world. The player can walk right up and start this game at any time, but they'll notice some of the changes right away.

Instead of fighting the traditional Nazis as you would in Wolfenstein 3D, instead you're facing off against Kreisau "terrorists," as they're labeled in the game. And instead of the usual Nazi décor that you've seen in the past, you'll instead see wanted posters for Blazkowicz – an interesting artistic choice.

You can see the video at this link to provide a better idea of what kind of alternate world you're in for in Wolfstone.

This isn't the first time that the classic Wolfenstein has gotten a nod in the new games. In the original Wolfenstein: The New Order, which released a few years ago, Blazkowicz actually has nightmares where he's fighting his way through a classic Wolfenstein level, with design similar to the classic game of the same name. But this is pretty cool in its own right.

You can check out Wolfstone 3D, as well as the rest of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, when the game arrives on October 27th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It's releasing early next year for Nintendo Switch as well.
