The Internet is buzzing with anticipation for Black Panther, after the first trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film was unveiled earlier this summer. Among the cast of characters introduced in that first trailer was Shuri (Letitia Wright), the younger sister of T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).

While it’s unclear exactly what role Shuri will have in Black Panther, Wright was recently asked about the comic precedent of her character taking up the titular mantle. And as the actress explained to CBR, she’s more than willing to adopt the Black Panther alias onscreen in a future MCU outing.
“It’s just exciting. That’s an exciting part of it.” Wright revealed. “You don’t know which way it’s going to go, because obviously they take from the comic book, add their flavor to it, and then they keep it going.”
Shuri was first given the mantle in 2009’s Black Panther Vol. 5, when she took on the identity to save her now-powerless brother, and all of Wakanda, from the evil villain Morlun. It’s currently unknown if a version of that storyline would make its way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Wright is certainly excited about the possibility.
“Whatever the future holds is going to be positive anyway,” Wright explained, “because if they embrace a story like [Black Panther], you know it’s going to be good.”
Those optimistic words from Wright are sure to please plenty of fans, even before they officially see her onscreen in Black Panther.
