Coming off the success of The Defenders, the Marvel Netflix brand is hot right now, and Punisher will be building on that momentum by pushing the Marvel Netflix universe into its next phase.
The entire theme of this Punisher trailer revolves around buried secrets and reveals, and it seems like Marvel is taking that concept all the way into the marketing and promotion. The show has released a lineup of vague, violent teasers, each holding back from revealing anything about the villains, any major story arc details, or official release date info.
By holding back the actual release date for The Punisher, Marvel and Netflix are definitely generating buzz and interest for the series, and there's an upcoming opportunity that seems too perfect for Marvel to pass up as a Punisher launchpad...

New York Comic Con takes place October 5th through October 8th, and Marvel TV has always made a point to make a big splash during the event -- often closing down the show with a big night panel in the main hall of New York City's Javits Center.
It was during NYCC 2016 that we first saw The Defenders stars unite onstage, as well as getting the big reveal that Sigourney Weaver was playing the villain of the show. Having heard that roaring crowd and felt the swell of excitement first-hand, it's easy to believe that Marvel will want to top its own hype from last year, and a surprise premiere of The Punisher would definitely do that!
Knowing what kind of showman Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb is, it wouldn't be surprising if the crowd at NYCC's Marvel TV panel were rewarded with the first viewing of The Punisher's first episode -- the series was filmed in NYC and all -- and when fans are roaring and cheering after the episode is over, Loeb will announce to the crowd that it's time to go home... and watch the entire rest of the series! That's our prediction, anyway.
Marvel fans, this means you need to keep an eye on Netflix during NYCC, especially the night of Friday, October 6th. That may just be when we see The Punisher debut on Netflix.
