Ryan Gosling may have been the host of Saturday Night Live's season premiere on Saturday night, but two members of the Agents of SHIELD team managed to sneak into the show's script as well.

The episode featured a skit in which three two-time alien abductees, played by Gosling, Kate McKinnon, and Cecily Strong, are interrogated by two agents of the CIA, played by Aidy Bryant and Mikey Day.

When the agents introduce themselves, Day's character is revealed to be named "Agent Fitz Simmons," which should ring some bells for fans of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

Agent Leopold Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons are two of the main characters on ABC's drama set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fitz, played by Iain De Caestecker, and Simmons, played by Elizabeth Henstridge, became so close to each other during their time at the SHIELD training academy that they became collectively known as FitzSimmons.

Over the course of Agents of SHIELD's four seasons so far, Fitz and Simmons have progressed from being best friends into something more romantic, with Fitz literally finding a way to travel across the universe to rescue Simmons when she was lost, making them, arguably, the cutest couple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There was also a second possible Marvel reference in the sketch. McKinnon's character reveals that, after being released by the aliens, she dropped into a 12-year-old boy's pool party. The boy's name is Danny Randall, which may or may not be a reference to Danny Rand, the earnest but immature Defender known as the Immortal Iron Fist.

When last we saw Agents Fitz and Simmons, they and the rest of the Agents of SHIELD team had successfully defeated the rogue LMD called Aida and shut down the virtual universe known as the Framework. The team's celebratory meal was interrupted a mysterious group of armed agents who put the group into some kind of frozen stasis and carted them off.

Fans still don't know if these agents are members of SWORD or some other organization, but they do know that the Agents of SHIELD team will be headed to space for its upcoming fifth season.

Agents of SHIELD will return to ABC in its new Friday night time slot this winter, replacing Marvel's Inhumans once the new series' first season has finished airing.
