Kevin Feige Says Marvel Fims & TV Shows Will Crossover

This weekend, the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw itself grow just a bit bigger thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy. The ragtag superhero squad rushed into theaters yesterday with its long-awaited sequel, and fans are eating the movie up. The film is the first MCU venture to debut this year, making way for other projects like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. On the small-screen, a slew of titles are approaching their release or undergoing production. So, naturally, fans are itching for Marvel Studios to crossover material between the two factions.

However, if a new interview with Kevin Feige tells fans anything, it is that the MCU may one day fold in television series more overtly.

During a chat with io9, the president of Marvel Studios seemed to change his tune on whether the MCU would bring its big- and small-screen projects together. The site asked the producer whether a character's appearance on the TV meant their cinematic future was totally nixed. Surprisingly, Feige said that wasn't actually the case.

"Not necessarily," Feige confessed. "The future's a long time. So, the truth is, I don't really know, but there are a lot of TV shows being made, and hopefully we'll continue to make a lot of movies. At some point, there's going to be a crossover. Crossover, repetition, or something."

The executive's answer does make it sound like there are no such plans being developed behind-the-scenes, but the possibility is there. It is not impossible to think that Charlie Cox might be asked to bring Daredevil to the big screen one day. Chloe Bennett may even be tasked with introducing Quake to Doctor Strange in the future.

Of course, plenty of Marvel's shows have acknowledge the larger history of the MCU. Agents of SHIELD has had Sif on the show; The Battle of New York has been referenced in several Marvel titles on Netflix. What fans want is for the films to give a nod or two to the shows, validating their weekly canon additions to some amount.

Even though Feige is now saying a crossover isn't out of the question, it seems like Marvel's actors are still wary of the combo. Recently, Anthony Mackie told fans at Wizard World Cleveland the mash-up would be impossible.

"Different universes, different worlds, different companies, different designs. Kevin Feige is very specific about how he wants the Marvel Universe to be seen in the film world," Mackie explained. "It wouldn't work. It wouldn't work at all."

However, Daredevil's star seems to think differently. In a past interview with ComicBook, the actor told our site he felt Matthew Murdock would fit in with the Avengers if given the chance.

"Some people have said that they wonder about, based on the tone the show, how Matt would fit in with the Avengers," Cox told our site. Well, the actor has some comic book knowledge to drop on you, doubters. "I was reading Civil War the other day, and Matt Murdock... is kind of an ass. He's in the back, standing around grumpy a lot of the time, and every now and again, he just says 'Well, we're not doing that' or something to that effect, and I'm like, 'That's the character, we're fine.' So tonally, with Matt I think we're right on point and he'd be a perfect fit in the larger MCU."
