Wolverine 3: Patrick Stewart Reveals Charles Xavier's R-Rated Differences In Logan

The third and final installment to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine movie franchise sets itself apart from its predecessor's in a number of ways. If you ask director James Mangold, he'll tell you that he crafted a more intimate and character driven story than most other super hero films. However, when you ask Charles Xavier actor Patrick Stewart, he'll tell you that filming Logan was drastically different from anything he has done in the X-Men franchise before.

During a press event for Logan in New York City, ComicBook.com did just that.

"What was different for me this time? Almost everything," Stewart said. "It was something I was happy to embrace because contrast and diversity of work has always been central to what I have done. I never wanted to be a personality actor or whatever you would call it. But looking for as many varieties of human experience that I could inhabit and express as possible. When hints were first dropped that there was going to be a Wolverine movie and it wasn't going to be anything like the other Wolverine movies or X-Men movies, I was intrigued and when I opened the script and read it, I was very, very pleased."

Of course, playing the part of Professor X for so many years lead Stewart to feel comfortable with the role in time. This time around, not only is the movie different from anything before it but Charles sees some major changes, as well.

"In a way, it wasn't that difficult because Charles Xavier is already a part of me," Stewart said. "That happens if you repeat a role long enough, the point where Charles Xavier begins and Patrick Stewart begins becomes very blurred. You merge. But, with this movie, there was work to be done because I could no longer feel, 'Well, I just have to walk on the set and be Charles' because this was a Charles that nobody has ever seen before."

More specifically, Stewart says Xavier is "violent, angry, out of control, and very dangerous." With the R-rating awarded to Logan, Xavier also comes equipped with "a sense of humor and a vocabulary," which Stewart says is best described as "offensive."

"For me, that was a delicious opportunity," Stewart said.
