The superhero movie landscape continues its strong streak with another six movies in 2017, matching 2016’s release schedule. That includes two from DC Films, two from Marvel Studios, 1 from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios in their groundbreaking collaboration, and one from Fox.

While there are more comic book movies (Click here for that comprehensive guide) and about 20 more movies in the “geek culture” umbrella – it’s a good year to be a geek who likes spending time at movie theaters.

Over the weekend, we ran a poll on the Comicbook.com facebook asking fans to vote using the various “like” buttons for their personal most-anticipated superhero movie of the year, with, in order of release, these six options: Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Raganarok, and Justice League. Nearly 100,000 votes later, we have some very clear winners, and some movies that the PR campaigns need to do a heck of a job on in the coming year. We will note: the “like” button, being the default and easiest to click, probably got a boost from that, but the boost couldn’t possibly have been the nearly 20 thousand vote victory it had over second place.

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok has folks on the Comicbook staff more excited than it does the fans, it seems. Coming in at sixth place, the thirdย Thor solo movie clocked in with about 4.7 thousand votes at press time. The Marvel Studios and Disney marketing machine should be able to make up plenty of ground there, and it being their last release of the year certainly takes some of the wind out of peoples’ sails at the onset. Still, it’s a movie withย Thor and Hulk beating up mythical creatures. Plus, more Loki, more Doctor Strange, and almost certainly some Infinity War tie-in and ramp up! Come on, people, what more do you need?

Wonder Woman

DC’s first (and the first of the modern era of super hero films) female-led movie came in fifth with about 5,800 votes.ย Wonder Woman sees Gal Gadot in her first full lead film, reprising the role she brought to the big screen in 2016’sย Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s also the first DC Films production that was led on-set primarily by Geoff Johns, coming into his new role with the company, so it may well be a proving ground for the future of that cinematic universe.

ย

Logan

Logan is the first superhero movie of the year, but came in fourth in the poll. Still, it heftily out-paced 5 and 6, with 11,000 votes. The final film starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine,ย Logan takes us into the character’s future, and looks to strike a much more serious tone than any of his previous appearances. It’s also rated R, so expect a lot more claws in skulls and F-bombs.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man: Homecoming pulls in third place, beatingย Logan by a narrow 2k votes. The thirdย Spider-Man film franchise and second reboot in just five years, the character and film are definitely facing down a web-shooter filled with fatigue. Still, after Tom Holland’s fun and fast first appearance inย Captain America: Civil War, and the fact that this movie takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ groundbreaking deal, fans have found a lot to be excited about.

ย

Justice League

Even more thanย Wonder Woman,ย Justice Leagueย feels like the make-or-break moment for DC Films. Can it pull in a better sense of fun and adventure? The first footage sure seemed like it. Can it course-correct that universe enough to make us want 10 more movies? That’s the tougher question to ask and answer. Still, 21,000 people voted this as their most anticipated movie – more than 20% of the voting sample, and that’s significant. Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, and eventually Superman on screen together? Yeah, it’s easy to be excited about that one.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2

Coming in at the top, just as it did forย Fandango‘s list (when just taking the superhero movies in consideration),ย Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2ย is your most-anticipated superhero movie this year. With forty thousand votes, close to half of the Comicbook.com readership is counting down to the first weekend of May withย Guardians on the mind. The follow-up to James Gunn’s surprise hit,ย vol. 2 should have everything the first did with more high-flying adventure, hilarious comedic moments, incredibly human and relatable relationships, and a sense of epic adventure coupled with characters you care about. Yeah, we get it, readers, we can’t wait, either.
