While they spend much of their time saving those who don’t have hi-tech suits of armor at their command or powers of magnetism, superheroes do still love to gather around a nice warm fire, put their Santa hats on, and enjoy the Christmas season.

Granted, they don’t always have somewhere to be, so when they get a moment to themselves they opt for some of the classic Christmas movies that they’ve undoubtedly missed out on completely due to saving humanity from aliens, evil other-dimensional beings, and tyrannical billionaires.
Before things get started, it should be noted that the classification for a “Christmas movie” is a bit subjective, but here it is defined as a “film that either represents, takes place during, or features Christmas as an important part of the plot.” So before you go “that’s not a Christmas movie!”, well, yes it is.
Without further ado, here are the Christmas movies that Marvel heroes love to watch on that special time of the year.
Captain America – While You Were Sleeping
The man known as Steve Rogers has one movie he watches every year, mostly because he can’t help but laugh that he’s actually lived through the absurd premise.
Every December Captain America puts down his shield for a bit and invites his friends over to watch the delightful classic While You Were Sleeping. Sure Sandra Bullock wasn’t frozen in a block of ice for seventy years, but her crush was unconscious for some time before he woke up to find his family in love with a woman he had never met.
You can see the parallels to be sure, and Steve’s right there with you.

Rocket And Groot – National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
This headline might be a bit misleading. National Lampoon’sย Christmas Vacation is actually Groot’s favorite Christmas movie. Rocket isn’t really the Christmas type, but because he can’t say no to Groot most of the time he just sits and watches it anyway.
Clark Griswald is the ultimateย tryer, and even though half the time he’s rather unsuccessful,ย he gives it his best shot. In many ways, Groot is the same, but that’s not why he watches. No, he watches becauweย it was the first time Groot ever saw Christmas lights, and ever since he’s been hooked.
In fact, after he watched it for the first time he started encasing Rocket’s arsenal of guns and rocket launchers in multicolored lights.. Rocket does not find this amusing, but you be the one to tell Groot no. Go on, just try.
Yeah didn’t think so.

Punisher – Die Hard
Some people say Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. The Punisher hates those people, and you should probably avoid telling him to his face.
Every time around the Christmas season, Frank Castle puts away his firearms, rocket launchers, grenades, knives, flashbangs, machetes, swords, axes, baseball bats, and spiked sham-wows and relaxes to the adventures of John McClane.
Though to be truthful, he spends half of the movie yelling at the television how he would have done it better, but still, there is nothing Castle would rather be doing. Yippee Ki Yay indeed.

Lockjaw – Santa Paws
The Inhumans live within the confines of Attilan, their royal city in the sky, so it stands to reason that their lovable buddy Lockjaw would have his own quarters. Last Christmas Lockjaw requested a rather sizable TV, and this year he’s breaking it in with his favoriteย Christmas movie, The Search For Santa Paws.
Lockjaw isn’t your traditional pet of course, as most dogs and cats don’t have the ability to teleport across the world, but that doesn’t mean he loves treats and tummy rubs any less. After watching the film for the first time, Lockjaw kept trying to get Karnac to dress up as an elf, but Karnac was not having any of it.
Such a spoilsport.

Thing – Miracle On 34th Street
Ben Grimm is one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel universe, and he’s always made his fondness for Yancy street well known. When it comes to Christmas though, there is only one street that matters.
Grimm might talk a big game, and he’s one of the strongest men on the planet, but inside he’s just a big softy. His compassion is second to none, and he’s a sucker for classic films. Miracle on 34th Street happens to have all the heart and Christmas sappiness one could ask for, and Grimm just eats it up.
With Santa hat in hand, Grimm puts his feet up, downs some eggnog, and enjoys the show.
ย That’s the list, but if you have any other recommendations make sure to list them in the comments! Merry Christmas!
