Along with announcing the season five release date and answering whether or not S.W.O.R.D. would make it’s MCU debut, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb shocked the crowd as Madison Square Garden as he revealed they’d be showing the first twenty minutes of season five.
The clip starts with an older gentleman โ or so we think โ getting ready for the day. He’s swimming in his backyard pool before he decides to go inside and shower, where it’s revealed he’s some sort of alien-like being as he removes his skin before getting in the shower.
After freshening up, the skin goes back on and he puts on a dapper suit before going to an empty aircraft hangar where a truck is parked. On his device, he uses some sort app-like software to cycle through different logos for the truck in real-time before ultimately settling on the branding of a beer company.
We then find out we’re seeing the end of season four through the vantage point of the mystery men that abducted the team in the diner. The mystery men take the team away before mentioning that they left one member in the diner, when it’s revealed that person isn’t “on the list.”
The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are then reanimated when it’s revealed they’re standing in the midst of a strange obelisk-like item that we saw in seasons two and three of the series. The stone turns into liquid before covering the agents and the screen cuts to black.
We come back and see Coulson in space with time stopped around him. There’s a broken window to the space station and it shows one person being sucked out of the window while two others are scrambling to get a hold of something.
As time slowly starts to crawl back to normal, Coulson grabs on to something at the last second. While one of the two people in the background are able to press a button to closes a door over the broken window, it’s too late โtheir ally was sucked out into the vacuum of space.
Coulson’s left to try piecing together what’s going on as an alien-like creature murders one of the two people with him and the surviving person alleges there are many more of the creatures. He reveals that he knows who Coulson is and maintained faith that they would eventually be saved.
Mack shows up and punches the guy out and soon Yo-Yo and Simmons arrive. We also see Agent May, but she’s been impaled through the leg in a separate part of the space station.
The group tries to figure out what’s going on as the guy Mack punched out regains consciousness. He tells the group that they’re legendary in history, hinting that they’re now at some point in the future. Before he can answer any questions, he’s killed by another alien.
Coulson, Mack, Yo-Yo, and Simmons attempt to escape but the alien manages to corner the group. As it appears it’s about to kill them, Daisy Johnson appears and kills it with her quake powers, revealing that Fitz was the team member left behind on Earth.
May manages to free herself and sees a mystery man wearing some sort of space mask โ almost a combination of Star Lord and Iron Man โ who’s scavenging one of the dead bodies left behind from the alien. He appears to leave and as May follows in pursuit, the mystery man catches her and holds her by the throat, telling her that he’s “been looking” for her.
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will return to ABC on December 1st, with a special two-hour premiere.
