It would be understandable for one to assume that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2 would be alike in both tone and story. According to Co-Director Anthony Russo though, that isn’t really the case.

In an interview with iO9, Russo addressed that point specifically.
“The movies are very very different from one another,” said Anthony Russo. “It’s not a part one and part two scenario, necessarily. They’re just two different expressions. I think it creates a misconception that we’re shooting them at the same time.”
Writer Stephen McFeely agreed with Russo’s take.
“I will agree [the two movies are very different], and that was very important to all of us,”
While the second film shares a name with the first, evidently that doesn’t mean it’s a direct continuation. That makes sense, as there is at least one movie (for the time being) scheduled for release in between, Ant-Man And The Wasp, that could bring some additional things into the overall storyline.
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 releases on May 4th, 2018.
