Over the past couple of months, Marvel Studios has been busy working on its most ambitious project yet. Avengers: Infinity War began production earlier this year, and filming is already underway. After a brief stint in Atlanta, the blockbuster is now overseas filming at various locations in Scotland. Naturally, fans have been keeping a close eye on which stars have been spotted on-set, but it looks like Marvel Studios has used that to their advantage already. Apparently, one actor’s supposed involvement was all a ruse to throw fans off-track – and it worked like a charm.

Over on Twitter, director James Gunn just answered a fan’s question regarding the return of Yondu in Avengers: Infinity War. The character, which saw his end in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, has been rumored to star in Marvel’s upcoming film. When asked to clarify a recent report regarding Yondu’s apparent revival, Gunn was quick to shoot the idea down.

“False,” he said. The director then went on to say Marvel brought Michael Rooker to the set of Avengers: Infinity War to trick people. “No we did it because word was getting out he wasn’t in the movie,” Gunn explained.

“People were guessing what that meant,” he continued, nodding to previous rumors which speculated Yondu’s death. To throw fans off, Marvel decided to make it look as if Yondu survived until Avengers: Infinity War. However, fans have since learned that was all a ruse.

Clever, huh?

In the past, Rooker has been very vague about his reported involvement with Avengers: Infinity War, and fans know why he acted as such. After a picture of the actor was shared with him donning a crew hat, media began questioning Rooker about the film. However, at every turn, the star would say little else other than he loved hats like the one the Avengers: Infinity War crew wears. Hopefully, the guy at least got to keep his hat even if he’s not a part of the project.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
