With Ed Brisson and Jon Malin joining the title for the landmark Cable issue #150 renumbering, the team will be investigating the death of the External known as Candra, a member of both the Assassins Guild and Thieves Guild in New Orleans.
The arc, aptly titled The Newer Mutants, sees various members of different incarnations of X-Force join in to solve the mystery. Old friends like Longshot and Shatterstar join the squad, alongside X-23 (of the mid-2000s squad) and Doop (from the X-Statix incarnation) fill out some of the ranks, alongside newcomers like Armor and Blink.
The murder is particularly disturbing given Candra’s status as an External, who are typically immortal. The characters were first mentioned during Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza’s run on New Mutants and X-Force. They are characters who cannot die, or tend to recover from mortal wounds.
So who could possibly have killed Candra? That’s the disturbing truth Cable & Co. intend to find out.
