The two characters already got close enough and did the horizontal dance in Jessica Jones‘ Netflix series, they went their separate ways by that show’s final episode.
Now they’re set to team up yet again when The Defenders premieres on Netflix, Luke Cage actor Mike Colter hinted that the sparks may fly yet again.
“I can tease you that there may or may not be something between them,” Colter said at the Defenders panel at Comicpalooza (via It’s All Connected). “I mean, it’s great. You get to see Luke and Jessica together again on screen. Hopefully you’ll all be satisfied seeing how it moves to another storyline.”
Luke Cage is currently involved with Claire Temple, played by Rosario Dawson. The two started hooking up during the second half of his solo series. Her character will also be appearing in Defenders, and photos of the production have revealed their relationship is still going well.

It’s definitely an interesting predicament for Cage, especially when you throw Misty Knight into the mix.
Keep in ming that Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are an item in the comicsโmarried, with children, in fact. Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s tends to be faithful to the comic book storylines, the films and TV shows are not beheld to them.
It will be interesting to see how all of the relationship drama plays out, but the Netflix series might go the route of making Cage and Jones “work friends” rather than lovers. Been there, done that. It’ll be especially difficult when both characters are meant to star in their own series.
Will Jessica Jones and Luke Cage end up an item before their team up is through? We’ll find out when Defenders premieres on Netflix August 18.
