In the Marvel Universe, Doctor Doom isn’t a character fans tread lightly upon. The well-known villain is a staple adversary to folks like the Fantastic Four, but Doctor Doom’s live-action debuts have been sorely disappointing. The villain made was the prime antagonist of Fox’s first Fantastic Four adaptation years ago, and he was then brought back for the 2015 reboot thanks to Toby Kebbell. For fans, Doctor Doom’s live-action walkthroughs have failed to depict the character’s complex motives and oblique philosophies. Some blame the issue with Fox whilst others think the problem has a more systemic cause.

Apparently, Kebbell is one of the latter. In a recent interview with Hey U Guys, the actor talked about his poorly received work in the last Fantastic Four film. It was there the actor said the only way to make Doctor Doom formidable again was to put him up against heroes like Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
At the beginning of the interview, Kebbell was asked if he’d be interested in playing Doctor Doom once more should a sequel get green-lit. The actor was quick to answer, saying, “I won’t be in it,” before he explained his insistence.
“Listen, Doom is an incredible bad guy. They just keep trying to force him into the Fantastic Four, you know? They just need to move it out because he smashes up Thor and Iron Man – all them. They get wasted.”
Of course, Kebbell is not the only person who would like to see Doctor Doom and the whole Fantastic Four lot folded into the MCU. Not long ago, director Scott Derrickson said he’d like to see Marvel’s superhero family pair up with icons like Captain America and Scarlet Witch.
“I still have hope that Fantastic Four can be properly brought into the MCU because a lot of Doctor Strange – that’s the comment I read the most during that,” the Doctor Strange director told ScreenRant. “I love those characters and I think that they still deserve another shot at finding a true home in the MCU. I still have hope for that. That’s my honest answer.”
Plenty of fans were impressed to hear that Derrickson still had hope for a Fantastic Four switch-a-roo. Many others have given up the idea entirely. Kevin Feige has said Marvel Studios won’t be able to strike a deal with Fox like they did with Sony over Spider-Man. So, for now, longtime fans have to hope Fox can get it together when it comes to Fantastic Four. The superhero team is an immensely powerful one; Now, the studio just has to do the squad justice.
Oh, and Doctor Doom. That’s important too.
