After a long period in stasis, Gambit‘s solo film is starting to move along at Fox. Channing Tatum has signed on to play the famous Cajun mutant, and it seems the character will be joined on-screen by a rather famous vixen of Marvel’s. If a new report is correct, then Candra may be heading for Gambit.

Earlier today, Omega Underground posted an article detailing some exclusive information it scooped about Gambit. The site reports that “a source with knowledge of Gambit’s character lineup” said Candra The Benefactress will be involved in the spinoff.
If you are not familiar with Candra, then you should know the mutant is integral to Remy Lebeau and his origin. Candra, who also goes by the moniker Red Death, is a villain who controls two of New Orleans mutant gangs: the Thieves Guild and the Assassins Guild. Gambit is a member of the former while his canonical love Bella Donna hails from the latter, but it is Candra who pulls both of their strings.
In the comics, Candra gives the members of her guilds power with her telepathy. In return, the groups struck a deal to protect the villain should her brethren ever try to kill her. Candra is a member of a group of immortal mutants known as the Externals, but Gambits wind up breaking the deal in the comics. The encounter sets up Candra to become one of Remy’s biggest nemeses, and the pair have fought often.
So far, there is no official word on whether Fox will really bring Candra to Gambit, but fans can hope. The inclusion of the mutant would open doors for Gambit to tie into other of Fox’s X-Men films. The vixen’s inclusion in the Externals could bridge Gambit with the studio’s Deadpool and X-Force plans as the group is known to pick fight with Wade Wilson’s crew. For now, fans will just have to wait and see how Gambit shapes up its cast as Fox revs up speed on the much-awaited film.
