While Peter “Star-Lord” Quill and Gamora are the “will they or won’t they” couple of Guardians of the Galaxy, fans of Marvel Comics will remember there was time that Iron Man, Tony Stark, joined the Guardians of the Galaxy in outer space and during that time he and Gamora had brief thing together.

Now, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 about to open and the Guardians set to join Iron Man and the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War, could we see sparks fly between Gamora and Tony on screen?
“First of all, I didn’t even know this. They do?” a surprised Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, tells ComicBook.com. As you’ll see in the video above, Saldana is at first concerned that Tony Stark will play Gamora, but when she’s informed that it is more likely the other way around she becomes pretty excited about the idea.

That is pretty close to what happens in Guardians of the Galaxy #4, written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Sara Pichelli, and released by Marvel Comics in 2013. Gamora and Tony flirt while drinking at the bar and end up going back to a bedroom. Gamora proves to be more than Tony can handle and when they’re done she heads back to the bar while Tony just lays there feeling sore.

There’s no telling if this will happen in Avengers: Infinity War, but it is certainly a scene we can imagine Saldana and Robert Downey Jr. having some fun with. Of course, with Tony still broken up about Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the chances may not be great.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 currently has a 4.23 out of 5 ComicBook.com user anticipation rating, making it the third most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers.
