Sure, Groot may have been the breakout star of the first Guardians of the Galaxy flick, but don’t think Drax is out for the count. The bumbling warrior left fans rolling with his oblivious jokes and untapped social cues, but Drax charmed them with his loyalty as well. Now, the actor behind the alien is talking about Drax’s future, and Dave Bautista is hinting at the hero’s unlikely friendships.

Earlier today, USA Today released an interview done with the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It was there that Bautista opened up about his character and Drax’s fledgling friendship with Mantis.
“He looks like this big tough brute but there’s a sense of innocence and heartbreak about him,” Bautista said, alluding to how Drax drew in the new character.
Of course, comic book readers will be familiar with Mantis. The character is a staple member of the Guardians in the Marvel Universe, and she will acts as a comrade to Ego the Living Planet in this year’s blockbuster.
